Dear Neighbor, 2009 was an exciting year for University Hospital and Medical Center. As we reflect on the accomplishments of the last year we also look forward to 2010 and the contributions that the Hospital will make to the Community. At University Hospital and Medical Center we will continue to bring breakthroughs in: orthopedic care and joint replacement surgery, diagnostic and interventional neurosurgical and spine services, women’s services including digital mammography and stereotactic surgery, and a complete range of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services. We also provide the latest diagnostic tools and procedures to care for you and your family. In 2009, we hosted the opening of our new Orthopedic and Spine Institute. The Orthopedic and Spine Institute brings together world class Orthopedic and Neurosurgeons, specialty trained nurses and ancillary staff in order to provide the highest levels of service and clinical outcomes. In March of 2009 the Hospital achieved designation as a Level 1 Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The Society of Chest Pain Centers is an accrediting institution that recognizes best practices and excellence in clinical pathways at Hospitals that provide cardiac care. The entire team at the facility is very proud of this achievement. In May of 2009 the Hospital also successfully completed its triennial Joint Commission Survey. In November of 2009 the hospital obtained accreditation as a Primary Stroke Center from The Joint Commission. This recognition of clinical expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of neurologically patients is a hallmark of the Hospital’s Neurosciences program. These designations speak to the tremendous dedication of the Hospital’s clinical team to provide the very best clinical care to the community we serve. From a medical quality standpoint we have made great strides at the Hospital including better than 98% overall compliance with all of Medicare’s Core Measures quality indicators. We have also been recognized in the top 5% of the Hospitals in the country with the lowest complication or mortality rates.
