Outpatient Services Center

Our Outpatient Services Center allows patients to undergo various procedures without an overnight stay in the hospital. These include:

  • Same-day surgical procedures such as hernia repair, breast biopsies, urological surgery, lithotripty (using ultrasound to
eliminate kidney stones) and some orthopaedic procedures.
  • Endoscopic procedures performed in the G.I. (gastrointestinal) Suite such as endoluminal gastroplication.
  • Diagnostic services such as invasive radiology procedures, digital fluoroscopy, PET scans and cardiac catheterization.
  • Outpatient therapeutic services such as blood transfusions and intravenous (I.V.) therapies.

For your comfort

At University Hospital and Medical Center our facility is state of the art, but our focus is on providing compassionate care in an atmosphere of utmost respect for our patients. Pre-registration by telephone from the comfort of home simplifies the admission process.

The hospital provides complimentary valet parking at the Outpatient entrance of the hospital. A family member or companion is welcome
to remain with each patient before and after procedures are performed.
Light nourishment is available for both our patients and their companions. And, most importantly, the staff providing ambulatory services are healthcare professionals who want our patients to be very satisfied with the care they receive.

Safety of a full service facility

While many ambulatory procedures may also be performed in a clinic type setting, patients often prefer the security and safety of having the full services of a hospital available, should they become necessary.
When a 23-hour admission is recommended as a safety precaution, or full admission as an inpatient is required due to unforeseen circumstances, being on the hospital premises is a comfort and convenience to both the patient and their family members.

Becoming a patient

A physician’s order is necessary for most ambulatory diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. If you are not currently under the care of an appropriate specialist, University Hospital and Medical Center offers Physician Referral around the clock at 1-877-UHMC-YOU. You and your physician decide where you will receive healthcare services. Discuss with your physician or the doctor’s office staff what hospital you may choose for your procedure.

Insurance

Medically necessary procedures done on an outpatient basis are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, private insurances and HMOs, although referrals may be required. The hospital’s outpatient registration staff will be glad to help you verify that your procedure is covered by your insurance provider. For a list of the insurances the hospital accepts, click here.
